This shot appeared in an old issue of CTC Board Magazine under the title “Rerailing by Committee.” The then-new SD35s were no match for the light rail and old ties in Southern’s engine terminal at Andover. The 3012 and two other SDs turned over the 70-pound rail, and the rerailing ordeal is now ongoing. Bigger steel, new ties, and some well placed gauge rods provided an eventual solution.
